Which risk factors influence recovery outcomes? What are the key components of a targeted, active treatments approach to concussion care?Join our Concussion Masterclass conducted by UPMC Pittsburgh: 

Professor Michael W. Collins, PhD | Department of Orthopaedic Surgery | University of Pittsburgh; Arthur J. Rooney, Sr. Chair in Sports Medicine; Clinical and Executive Director, UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program (Pittsburgh).

Professor Anthony P. Kontos, PhD | Department of Orthopaedic Surgery | University of Pittsburgh er Vice-Chair Clinical Research; Research Director, Concussion Research Laboratory (University of Pittsburgh). Dr. Kontos has specialized in concussion/mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) research for the past 18 years with over 225 peer-reviewed publications. 

The Concussion Masterclass is hosted and arranged by Center for Rehabilitation of Brain Injury and The Danish Concussion Center.

Target Audience:

Multidisciplinary healthcare professionals (physicians, neuropsychologists, physiotherapists, nurses...) working with concussed patients, and researchers interested in concussion.

Workshop Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss key characteristics of concussion clinical profiles including anxiety/mood, cognitive-fatigue, migraine headache, ocular, vestibular.
  2. Describe comprehensive, multidomain assessment approach to concussion including symptoms, cognitive, vestibular, oculomotor, and exertion-based evaluations.
  3. Analyze emerging evidence for concussion clinical profiles, risk factors, assessments, and recovery.
  4. Discuss targeted, active approaches to treatment and rehabilitation for concussion including behavioral, activity/exercise, vestibular, and oculomotor therapies.
  5. Describe emerging research findings regarding concussion treatments.
  6. Apply a clinical profiles and targeted treatment approach to better conceptualize and manage individual patients with concussion.
